How to stay Fit and Healthy in your Senior Years
September 26th 2008 21:57
As we age we need to realise that at some stage we will be confronted with the inevitable health concerns. For some this will be quite serious and encroach on their ability to maintain an independent lifestyle. For others it may pose only minor inconveniences.
Taking preventative measures before matters get out of hand is the best policy.
Have regular health checks. Visit your doctor and undergo a complete physical to determine whether or not there are presently any areas of concern such as high blood pressure, shortness of breath or the possibility of diabetes.
See your dentist once every six to nine months to maintain your dental health.
If you find your eyesight starting to fail and you can no longer hear conversations as clearly as you used to, then visit the optometrist and audiologist.
Perhaps you need to consider losing weight if this is currently an issue for you. Maybe you need to cut back on smoking or even think about giving it away altogether. Apart from the health issues, the cost of smoking is becoming more and more prohibitive and once you are on a fixed income this habit is going to significantly impact on your limited cash reserves.
Don't ignore the warning signs. Take action now and reduce the negative impact these issues may have on your life as you enter your senior years.
